Spring has sprung so I'm spending all my time outside in the hills, writing new music, or packing up the house! The family is relocating to Brevard, NC this spring/early summer and we couldn't be more thrilled. Lots of great friends and even more great outdoor opportunities in that little corner of NC. It will be heartbreaking to leave the Rockfish Valley of VA, but we'll be back, for The Festy if not sooner. The Bluegrass, Beer & Bikes Tour was a smashing success with over $2500 raised for local bike trails. Hopefully we can do it again next spring, possibly even expand the concept and head west! The Stringdusters head to CO, Austin and the midwest in April and May, we're working on a new record that's shaping up to be the most interesting music we've ever made. I have a handful of solo shows in VA before we leave, full schedule on the SHOWS page of the website. Stay in tune and stay in touch!
3 nights with Keller Williams in the NorthWest, 4 nights in the mountains, Oakland w/ Railroad Earth and Terrapin Crossroads with the Family Band (culminating in a 35 minute Scarlett-Fire jam for the ages), about 7 great trail runs sprinkled in and hours in a van and you have the last 2 weeks of my life, on tour with the Stringdusters. 2 nights in Tahoe at Winter Wondergrass Tahoe, then a red-eye to Suwannee Springfest and this tour is over. Just in time for Bluegrass, Beer & Bikes (and hopefully some warm spring weather). Join me as I raise money for local trails in Brevard and Boone, NC and Roseland and Roanoke, VA. Life is Good!!
I write from a mountain top outside Boone, NC where the Stringdusters have been working on music for a few days. March and April are long tours with the Stringdusters and in between I'll be visiting Brevard and Boone, NC and Roanoke and Roseland, VA on my Bluegrass, Beer and Bikes Tour, brought to you by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine. We'll meet up for a group mountain bike ride during the day then roll into the local brewery for a party to raise money for the local trail system.
Last week Sunliner recorded our debut EP in Nashville and... it's incredible. So inspiring to have a new challenge, new music, a new instrument, and a new aesthetic (rock band). Very excited about New Years Eve in Brevard with The Larry Keel Experience, Jeff Sipe and Jeremy Garrett. I'll be joining Larry and opening band, Jon Stickley Trio on NYE, then Jeremy, Sarah Siskind and the David Wax Museum will be collaborating on a New Years Day Gospel Brunch. Should be a blast!
