Life is just absolutely cruising by these days, 3 weeks ago tomorrow, Sarah, Ruby and I welcomed Ry Davis Book into the world. A few days later I set out on the road with the Stringdusters for our fall tour. We've had summer-like weather and great shows in places new and old. It's been a blast but I'm looking forward to getting home and back to writing, the bike, and the domestic routine for a couple months. The next big Stringdusters Tour, Ladies & Gentlemen, kicks off in February in support of our best and most ambitious studio recording yet. Before that, though, there are a handful of very cool shows I'm super excited about. November 20 Jon Stickley and I will be playing as a duo with special guest Sarah Siskind at 185 King Street in Brevard, NC. November 27 & 28 I join Keller Williams in Roanoke and DC for his Thanksforgrassgiving event. This has a killer lineup and should be a monster weekend. The Stringdusters reconvene in Denver at the Fillmore on December 12 with our new best friends (and one of my favorite bands) The Wood Brothers. Finally, let's not forget New Years in Baltimore, MD and Jamcruise, on a boat, in the ocean. Keep Thanksgiving sacred, stay home Black Friday, and give your family a hug.
I can't say what exactly signals the end of summer and beginning of fall. It's probably a feeling more than anything, and I'm starting to feel it. I've been enlisted by some of my favorite musicians for the first two weeks of September. Last week Keller Williams asked me last minute to join him at the Strawberry Music Festival for one more Grateful Grass set this summer and Sarah Siskind has me backing her on upright at the Mountain Song Festival in our hometown of Brevard, NC. The Stringdusters head west for a week then stop off in Raleigh for the World of Bluegrass and Nelson County, VA for The Festy Experience. In November the Stringdusters hit the road and hit NY, VT, ME, PA, OH, MI, IL, KY, TN, GA and NC. Full Tour Schedule HERE. I'm also very excited to be doing 3 shows with one of my favorite musicians, Jon Stickley. We'll be in Brevard and Asheville, NC and we're planning a StageIt show (streaming on the internet). Info on all shows HERE. Enjoy the transition of the seasons, see you out there...
In the midst of the Best Summer Ever. Stringdusters, Sunliner, Grateful Grass, solo shows, and a bunch of time in the woods. I've fallen off the habit of getting on here to keep it updated, mostly because I've been focused on getting as much sun on my face and dirt under my feet/tires as possible. I've relocated to Brevard, NC and couldn't be happier. The Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Forest are my mountains, Folly Beach is my beach and the view out my backdoor is every bit as inspiring as it was in Virginia. Starting the planning process for a solo record, the Stringdusters are nearly done with our new album and Sunliner should be finishing up our debut record in early 2016. I'm in the planning stages for the second season of Bikes, Bluegrass and Beer and I've also been getting a lot of inquiries for house concerts and other solo engagements, which I love and welcome, so keep them coming! Tour dates will be updated soon. Stay cool, hope to see you at one of the late summer festivals.
